Couple both 19, Die in Car Crash One Day After Getting Married

Austin Wesson and Rebekah Bouma, both 19, after receiving their marriage license less than 24 hours later, lost their lives tragically as their car hit a tree.

A cause for the accident has not yet been determined, but both Austin and Rebekah were both wearing seatbelts.

Austin died at the scene and Rebekah died early Monday morning at a local hospital.

“She [Rebekah] is with the Lord that she loved so deeply and so joyfully and she is with her husband of just one day, Austin Wesson, whom she loved with all her heart,” Bouma’s mother, Rachel Bouma, posted on Facebook.

The couple initially met in February while Rebekah was on a mission’s trip in South Africa, where Austin was from.

The pair immediately hit it off and spent a lot of time together, continuing their relationship even after Rebekah returned to the U.S.

On a Friday in June, Austin arrived to Kansas for a visit on a visa and by Sunday, the couple was engaged.

Bouma, the brides mom said the pair was ecstatic after they were married. It was a small ceremony with only a few family members, Bouma said. The couple planned to have a larger wedding in September.
